This paper examines the Ignatian spirituality (St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits).
The value and importance of spirituality in organizational life are increasingly recognized by members of organisations and by social scientists. Within this panorama, Ignatian spirituality and Spiritual Exercises – that represent its clearest form of expression – take an important role.
On the basis of a long ethnographic research (1998-today), still in progress, within a Jesuit organization of social and cultural intervention (Villa S. Ignazio, Trento), this work attempts to describe and analyse the main elements (“contemplative action”, “reflection”, “discernment”, “shared leadership”, etc.) that characterize today the model of Ignatian spirituality.
The paper shows how the Ignatian spirituality provides particularly effective tools for understanding social phenomena and preparing strategies for social intervention and promotion of social justice that are focused on real psychological and social needs of the person.

Osservare il sommerso: la prostituzione sommersa in night club, bar, saune e luoghi pubblici

The paper examines the so-called hidden prostitution.
Usually, hidden prostitution is the prostitution of somebody who receives at home through ads, or picks up customers in nightclubs, bars, saunas, beauty centers, etc. In the present work I use the term hidden prostitution with a broader meaning, including in it another form of prostitution: male prostitution in parks, public toilets, car parking, etc.
The main hypotheses of the paper are: a) there are specific subcultures within the phenomenon of prostitution, b) the phenomenon of prostitution is developing on the basis of two main trends: invisibility and impersonality of sexual acts; c) the subculture of prostitution has important connections and elements of integration into the dominant culture.
Based on the results of an ethnographic research, I describe the phenomenon highlighting certain aspects: roles and organizational structures, relational dynamics, emotional labour, prostitute/client interactions, communication codes, gender differences.
The picture that emerges is a complex and varied phenomenon which quickly transforms and adapts itself to market needs maintaining, however, a clear cultural horizon of reference.

The present article focuses on the learning of aggression in a “total institution” within the Italian army – namely, an elite corpse of paratroopers called Folgore. The extremely violent training and rituals of this group can be seen as both symbolic and particularly representative of the ideal model pursued within the army, and the armed forces in general. The central hypothesis of the work is that the learning of aggression within the military institution is wanted and controlled, being necessary and functional for the purposes of the military institution itself. Based on an autobiographic ethnography, main rituals and practices in the everyday life of the squad are described and analyzed by
making conceptual references to the notions of rites of passage, rites of institution, and the psychological behaviourist learning model. Moreover, the authors argue that Italy is witnessing the transmission of practices and ideologies from the military to the police – thus producing a blend which makes the custom between war and peace ever more blurred
